5 x 5 Square Grid and Space Exhibition
Posted by in Art | Design | Inspiration | Random Thoughts | The JourneyEver since I left secondary education I’ve always been very interested in the art movement Suprematism and the Russian painter Kazimir Malevich. Influenced by his theories, I had started experimenting with ideas of using basic graphic styles to create design solutions. My experimentation has allowed me to create multiple graphic elements and a type face by using a 5×5 square grid.
From these experiments I have started putting together design ideas for graphic art posters, which over the coming months I plan to run some test prints and then if successful, I will have a small number of limited editions prints available for purchase.
While playing with this graphic style I spotted a perfect creative brief online, which would allow me to put my experimentation into practice. I recently entered into the Space Exhibition that is running in conjunction with the Cardiff Design Festival, which takes place in October 2011. The exhibition is free to submit work and is open to all artists, illustrators, designers and anyone who just likes to draw. The exhibition will be curated by Ben Cox, MD of The Central Illustration Agency and selected entries will be printed and showcased at the event in October. You can view all of the entries online at the Space Exhibition’s website (http://spaceexhibition.co.uk). If anyone is interested in taking part the deadline for entries closes on 1st August 2011.
Below you will see the final design that I submitted to the Space Exhibition and if anyone has any feedback on this style I’m experimenting with or thoughts on the limited editions prints I’m considering on running, please leave a comment or get in touch.
