About the journal

Blogging is my new method of procrastination.

A warm welcome or as they say in the land of my fathers, coreso cynnes.

You have either been falsely lured here with hope of finding interesting information or unfortunately stumbled across the ramblings of a Graphic Designer. But… if you do have a little bit of time to stick around please have a browse through some of the random thoughts that cloud my mind. Or what my old school teachers would call day dreaming.

Why have I decided to jump on the blog bandwagon?

After a recent working trip to the Middle East I hit a wall, which I’m sure many designers have done in their careers where they question their place in the industry and the next steps to achieving satisfaction for their frustrated creative soul. I was discontent! Questioning whether I lacked ambition, doubting if the industry really was for me. Would I be better off teaching? Should I specialise in just one area instead of spreading myself across various media? Creative block? Afraid of failure? Designers can be fragile creatures and not having answers has been chipping away at me.

So… I’ve decided to do something about it and put my frustration hopefully into good use and maybe I’ll get some answers along the way or at least some creative pieces of work. I’ve always used my sketch books as visual diaries and the idea of the blog/journal has stemmed from there. Over the next year I’m using this space as a journal, adding entries of my thoughts and research of the creative industry, as well as issues I encounter as a Graphic Designer. I’m going to analysis Graphic Design, investigate the history, pull it apart and stick it back together. I’m looking forward to dabbling with different mediums and playing with new media ideas. Along the way this visual journal may evolve, I’m trying not to create boundaries. No longer will I be afraid to fail.

If you’ve gotten this far you’re either bored in work or for some crazy reason interested to read on. If the latter, then please comment along my journey or give your insight onto any of the subjects I post.

  1. I really like the smelling and grammer section. As for whether I was bored in work or for some crazy reason interested to read your work. It was the first at first and then it was the latter at last.
